When a personal training client is determined to reach a short or long term weight loss, fat loss, fitness and health goal we set parameters for themselves so that they stay focused on what it is they need to do in order to reach that goal. Take eating healthy for instance, the average person, who is trying to lose weight will eat smaller meals throughout the day or maybe only eat a few meals per day. Some may actually cut down their serving sizes by eating on smaller plates in order to give their mind the illusion that they’re eating a full meal when actually they’ve only eaten about half of what they would normally eat on the plate. Sounds smart? and in most cases that would actually work… if we didn’t live in the real world!
Here’s the truth, most people that try these schemes only end up hurting themselves in the long run, because even though it may feel like it’s working for them at the time; its only matter of time before it blows up in their faces. No matter what you do to attempt to fool your mind, the body will find a way to get the nutrients it feels it needs to survive. Most people that attempt these schemes are operating on what we know as WILL POWER. But let’s face it, we live in a society that tells us, in a subliminal way to “Live life to the fullest”, “Have fun without consequence”, “Do whatever you want!”. So for most people it becomes extremely difficult to operate on shear will.
So, let me introduce you to the Absolutely Fit way of thinking “SKILL POWER”
This is a brief way on how skill power works, instead of eating the most convenient meal you can find, which for most of us would be Fast Food restaurants, shop brought packed sandwiches, crisps and sweets, why not go for the more cost effective dinners offered by companies that provide preassembled meals that you can cook at home. Like I said before, “the body WILL get the nutrition it feels it needs to survive”, so why not make a conscious effort to meet every section of that food pyramid in a healthy way. If you want chicken buy skinless chicken instead of KFC. If you’re like me, and you can’t afford a personal chef, then invest some energy into basic cooking and meal planning skills. Which we coach all our client to do (I will also blog some fantastic fat loss food ideas soon) And because we like to eat foods that are available and convenient, your job, in order to reach your goals, is to keep a variety of nutritious and tasty foods on hand so that you can assemble meals quickly. This skill power and not all will power will prevent you from racking up calories from fast food and take away joints.
